Rhys Osborne discovered an absinthe fountain at a flea market and his curiosity was reignited, prompting him to open Bedroom 6. Taking inspiration from absinthe’s history and its four-part tasting session that features absinthe, Osborne opened two speakeasy-style social clubs in New York and Los Angeles named for the college rental where events first started taking place in 2019 (‘Bedroom 6’) featuring rituals meant to help guests “connect with themselves and each other more mindfully.” He took inspiration for creating four guided tasting sessions including absinthe – named for college rental where events first started hosting events in 2019!
Absinthe is traditionally produced by steeping a mixture of herbs and spices in alcohol for several hours before distilling to produce its oil-infused distillate. The process can be time-consuming; absinthe producers must wait for all herbs to fully steep before beginning distillation. Once all herb oils have been extracted through distillation, absinthe can then be diluted according to brand variations or regional laws to its specified proof level.
Absinthe is traditionally drunk ice cold over a sugar cube perched a spoon in a glass of water, using a ratio of one part absinthe to five parts ice water. As water mixes into spirit, compounds with poor solubility release into drink creating what is known as “louche.” Artists such as Toulouse-Lautrec, Degas and Sickert used absinthe as inspiration and hauntance in their works of art and lives; she fuels their works while haunting lives as much as it fueled their art and haunted their lives as much as she did for inspiration as well as hauntance!
